High Spending Gamers Support Tourism in Macau during COVID-19

The COVID-19 pandemic has greatly impacted the tourism worldwide. To keep monitoring the local tourism market, MRC Macau Research Centre conducted a survey and interviewed 103 tourists from March to May 2020 in Macao.

The results show that the current visitors to Macau tended to be in high spending groups. Besides, they were repeated visitors and intended to stay in Macau for a long period of time for gaming and shopping.

Study Revealed Less Macao Employees Feel Supported During COVID-19 Compared to Hong Kong

A research conducted by CSG reveals that 28% of Macao employees felt that they are not supported by their employers during these uncertain times, as compared to 20% in Hong Kong. 36% of older (aged more than 50) and 31% of blue-collar workers reported higher needs of support than younger (21%) and white-collar professional (22%) respectively.

Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (HZMB) Attracts High Quality Visitors to Macao

  • MRC and CSG Research found that visitors arriving in Macao via the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (HZMB), which has been open since October 2018, spend over a third more than visitors arriving through sea ports.

  • Due to the convenience brought by the new mega-bridge, 78% of these visitors would now plan repeat visits to Macao. These visitors also intend to stay longer in the future.

  • The local tourism industry are suggested to utilize these insights to forge even better relationships with these valuable guests.

Cash Sharing Scheme Study - Report (Only Chinese is Available)

Macao Research Center is dedicated to promoting the application of research in social and economic activities in Macao. In order to understand the views of Macao residents on the annual cash sharing scheme, MRC interviewed 201 Macao residents in October 2017 to collect their opinions. The research results are now available for public reference.

80% SMEs used new media for publicity 

Macau Advertising Society announced the "2016 Macao SMEs catering and retail advertising application survey.“ yesterday. 70% of SMEs spent less than 10,000 mop on annual advertising expenses and 80% used new media for publicity.
